This trip is a great opportunity to explore a section of Southeast Alaska rarely visited by sea kayakers or land lovers. Out trip will begin in Juneau, AK where we will load our kayaks and camping gear on the Alaska State Ferry and head south along the inside passge to the Village of Kake. Here we will prep our kayaks and provision any last minute items before shoving off into the waters of Stephens Passage.
With the weather and tide as our guide we can choose to make the crossing to east Kuiu or head south and east through rock pass exploring its many islands, bays and passes. With 10 days ahead of us we have time to set up a camp for several days at a time or keep moving each day. Eventually we will arrive on the eastern shores of Kuiu Island. If we are feeling adventurous and have the time we have the option to make a portage or two via old logging roads and possibly make our way to the western side of Kuiu and into the Tebenkof Wilderness. Eventually we will make our way back to the east side of Kuiu Island into Port Camden and back to The village of Kake and eventually Juneau bringing the exploration to an end.
